July 4-6 SOVREN Pacific Northwest Historics Pacific Raceways Celebrate 70 Years of Chevy Small Block V8
The cars powered by the revolutionary, compact, lightweight powerful new 1955 V8 and succeeding versions will be featured in numerous vintage races over the big festive weekend. They include the successful 1956-1957 Corvettes. The addition of the 265ci small block V8 and a well publicized racing program is credited in saving the Corvette program. It also sparked a successful introduction of the new styled 1955 Chevrolet sedans. The V8 was widely used in 1957-1958 to replace blown racing Ferrari and Maserati engines. By 1958-1959 in the US the small block V8 was the engine of choice in Cooper Monaco's and Lotus 19 Monte Carlos in USAC pro sports car races. They soon appeared in USRRC and Can-Am, McLarens, Lolas, Chaparrals in a golden era of sports car racing.
All SOVREN racing classes will be in action. Also featured is a special Sprite Midget Challenge race and a Battle of The Brits feature race. This is SOVREN's largest vintage racing weekend with over 250 fascinating racing cars expected. The paddock is open to spectators to see the cars up close and talk to the racers. Three day spectator tickets are $30, seniors $15, children 12 and under free, 13-16 year old tickets are $15. Tickets available online or at the gate.
