Formula Junior Vintage Formula Cars Featured At Four Big Vintage Racing Weekends in 2026
The North American FJHNA season opens May 27-31 with the Velocity Invitational at Sonoma Raceway. The International Formula Junior Platinum Tour by FJHRA joins North American Formula Juniors of FJHNA during the August 12-15 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Revival at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as a featured group. The combined organization Formula Junior race cars will be featured at the September 3-7 Lime Rock Historics and Festival at Lime Rock Park. The following weekend at Watkins Glen the combined field will be featured during the September 10-13 SVRA all vintage racing weekend.
The Formula Junior formula cars of 1959-1963 were the first official FIA stepping class to Formula One. Jimmy Clark's first formula car race was in a F Jr, a Lotus 18, on Boxing Day 1959. Jackie Stewart's tryout for Team Tyrell F1 was in a FJr. In the USA noted drivers were Jim Hall, Briggs Cunningham, Pete Lovely, Steve McQueen raced a Cooper FJr in Europe and brought it back to the US.
